Those of you who like your fashions custom-made may have engaged the services of Spiros and Vaso from The Goddesses in Winter Park's Ranch Mall at one time or another. The brother/sister, designer/seamstress team, who specialize in reproducing designer looks without designer price tags, are celebrating their 30th anniversary right now.
Originally from Greece, they studied fashion design in Athens in the early 1960s before opening a boutique on the island of Rhode. They later emigrated to the U.S., and opened The Goddesses in 1979. The duo, who use only their first names professionally, have been designing, sewing and embellishing special-occasion fashions for Central Florida socialites, brides and pageant queens ever since — as well as costumes for area theme parks.
